What is the Eco Veículo?

The Eco Veículo is a joint project developed by a team of professors and students from the Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra and several other institutions.

It's objectives, among others, are to project, build, test and develop an automobile vehicle to compete in an international event of energy economy. In order to obtain a good performance, several variables are tried to be kept to a minimum, such as: the vehicle's rolling resistance on a straight line and during cornering; the aerodynamic drag force. We are developing a new engine and transmission system with high energetic efficiency. This project has been under development since 1998 having the best performances been obtained, so far, of 2306,8 km with one liter of gasoline at an average speed of 24,135 km/h (2009) and 2042 km with one liter of gasoline at an average speed of 30 km/h (2009).

This project has an eminently pedagogical character since it provides an opportunity not only to apply the adquired knowledges, of it's elements, but also to develop their enterpreneurship and inovation attitudes and management skills.
